David McDonald was born in Iowa, and he grew up on a farm in the state that he calls home. In 1987, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science while studying at Iowa State University, and he went to work for OSI Group after his graduation. At the beginning of his career with the company, he served as OSI’s Project Manager, and it was his duty to help with the expansion of OSI on an international level. A lot of his initial work had to do with expansions that were happening in Asia and Latin America. As he continued on with the company, he began to take on more responsibilities. Today, he is the President and Chief Operating Officer of OSI and also sits on the Board of Directors for the company.
David McDonald also sat on the Board of Directors of Marfrig Alimentos S/A, which is a very well known protein company. He also served with the American Meat Institute as its Chairman in recent years and was the original Chairman for the North American Meat Institute. To this day, he serves the Executive Board of the North American Meat Institute as an active member. McDonald is a part of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative with Iowa State and worked with OSI to put together a field trip to facilities owned by OSI for some students in China. OSI, inspired by McDonald’s mission to support students has set up a student intern program, which means many future students may have the chance to work with the company.
David McDonald has always been a generous man, and he continues to give his Alpha Gamma Rho, his college fraternity, his support through helping to fund a scholarship. He was also quick to offer his support for a fundraising campaign for the AGR house at Iowa State, and he was a part of the reason why the an arena in the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center was named the Marvin J. Walter- AGR Fraternity Arena. McDonald also serves the St. Michael Parish in Wheaton, Ill. by generously donating his time. His involvement with the alumni association inspired them to award him with the ISU Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Award during the 2004 calendar year.
Today, David McDonald serves OSI Group in a leadership capacity and enjoys spending time with his wife and six children. He also remains involved with his church and is an active member of his community.
