Maggie Gill’s Diligent efforts Managing Memorial Health

Memorial Health is a non-profit organization operating in southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina. It has various educational and medical programs, including a 24 call-center. Its main operations are based in its hospital in Savannah Georgia called the Memorial University Medical Center, which has the capacity to treat over 600 patients. The hospital is also connected with the Mercer University School of Medicine, and is a training center for residents.

Memorial Health is led by its CEO Margaret (Maggie) Gill, MBA. Gill holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and an MBA from Saint Leo University. Gill has been associated with Memorial Health since 2004, and prior to becoming CEO in 2011 Maggie Gill acted as vice president of finance/managed care and COO of the Memorial University Medical Center. Gill is also a former CFO of Tenet South Florida Health, where she received the Tenet Outstanding CFO award three times. Outside of work, Gill is an associate professor at Mercer University, and serves as a board member for the Georgia Hospital Association, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and Union Mission. It is notable that Gill was recently recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review in its 2016 list of 135 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know.

Gill has been working diligently to advance the interests of Memorial Health patients by seeking beneficial partnerships and avenues for growth. Gill understands revenue difficulties facing nonprofit organizations due to a changing healthcare environment (with reductions in government reimbursements), and continues to pursue solutions. First, Gill attempted to form a partnership with Novant Health Inc., and the same would have infused $295 million in capital into Memorial Health. Unfortunately, the partnership failed due to interference by the Chatham County Hospital Authority. Undeterred by the setback, Gill proceeded to develop a new management plan for Memorial Health– a $20 million-a-year action plan called “Pathway to Excellence” that includes assistance from Premier Inc. In addition, Gill recently succeeded in obtaining a partnership with Eon Health to provide a patients with a new Medicare Advantage plan. No doubt, Gill will continue her diligent efforts to advance Memorial Health.
