The Chainsmokers Explore Their Dark Side With New Single

The New York-based EDM pop group, The Chainsmokers, had recently released their brand new single “Sick Boy” and its vibe is wonderfully darker than any of their prior work. The Chainsmokers consists of two members, DJ Alex Pall and producer Andrew “Drew” Taggart, who recently started providing vocals to some of their tracks. The group formed in back in 2012, they entered the mainstream music scene when they released their first mega hit single “Roses” back in 2015.


Shortly after that, DJ Alex and Drew continued to evolve and produced more hit singles that become top ten on the charts for weeks. The Chainsmokers’ Grammy Award-winning track “Don’t Let Me Down” which featured the singer and songwriter, Daya, boosted her exposure and quickly made her a favorite among the synthpop crowd.


The Chainsmokers shared that their single “Sick Boy” will be the latest installment of a new era for the DJ duo, after taking a nine-month hiatus from producing music. The tone is darker, and Drew Taggart explained that it was because it was a reflection of our current society and what was going on in their own personal lives. He felt frustrated after feeling somewhat restricted. He was reading things in the media about them, whether they were positive or negative in nature and felt he couldn’t really react. Through social media, Taggart feels that everyone is trying to relate to each other and as a group, they try their best to put themselves out there in their truest form. Sometimes the message is more ‘cryptic’ than intended and people will interpret it interesting ways. Alex Pall Shares How The Chainsmokers Got Started

There is a start to every great musical group, and The Chainsmokers had a start that was unique to them. When Alex Pall was asked in an interview how he first got started working with Andrew Taggert and how the two formed The Chainsmokers, he shared the story of just what took place. He shared that he was working a job at the time and simply keeping music as a hobby. He mentioned that the manager that he was working with when it came to his music introduced him to Andrew Taggert. The two of them started to make music together, and that was the start of The Chainsmokers. Alex Pall quit his job so that he could start to work on music fulltime. When he was questioned about how he and Andrew Taggart knew that they would be able to work with one another, Alex Pall shared that they knew right away what each of them was going to offer to the duo. He shared that they spent time talking about music and that they really got to know one another and what it as that the other liked. They also found that they were both ambitious and that both of them longed to make their music work out. Alex Pall has shared that the songs that he works on with Andrew Taggart are songs that are real to them. There are times when they have songwriters working with them, but the lyrics of the songs are still used to represent their lives.
